Regular locks/latches can be weak and ineffective in keeping animals secure. Some animals can manipulate a lock/latch and escape.
When the device is in the locked/latched position the main rod is secured into a keeper mounted on the frame. The secondary handle rod is secured into the main receiver, a chain attached to the main receiver is clipped to the handle. To unlock/unlatch, unclip chain from the handle, grab handle and move rod assembly until secondary handle rod comes out of main receiver. Lift handle, move main slide rod in opposite direction. This will disengage the main slide rod from keeper.
